"I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God." Isaiah 61:10a
Recently I started a Beth Moore devotional and that was the opening verse today. It ties into my life so thoroughly at the moment I thought I would share.
When my Parents named me, my mom was very careful about it. She made it up so she was careful about the spelling of Kylene and also very careful about the meaning she designated to it. My name means "delights in God." And she assigned me the life verse of Psalm 1:2 "for [her] delight is in the law of the Lord and [she] meditates on it day and night." Then, as if she wanted to drive the point home (and in case I hated my unique name when I grew up) my middle name is Joy. Do you know that most people who are raised understanding the meaning of their name in some way live up to it?
This weekend I took my son on a short little vacation partially to bond and have a good time while my husband is out of town and also to see a friend of mine perform at Sight and Sound theater in Lancaster, PA. I had never heard of that theater until he started working there and told me all about it. It's a Christian theater and they write and produce their own shows, but they only do shows based on the Bible. For example, the show we went to see was the story of Joseph.
Now, you may be thinking 1) Christian arts (drama, movies and music) are usually sub-par and 2) What does this have to do with the verse? No worries! I will address both concerns post haste.
1) Normally I would agree with you. But Sight and Sound theaters match any show I have ever seen on Broadway. They certainly live up to their name by constantly dazzling your senses with beautiful sets, incredible visual effects, beautiful singing and wonderful acting. It was, I would say, in the top 5 shows I've ever seen.
2) This all ties together, and here is how....the way Sight and Sound told the story of Joseph was so beautiful, I was holding back tears many times throughout the show. I was incredibly moved and when I stopped to think about why, it was because not only do I appreciate music, particularly when it's well done, but there were hundreds of people sitting in this room enjoying a show the sole purpose of which was to glorify God .... and it moved me deeply. It felt like the Holy Spirit was jumping for Joy inside of me.
It's hard sometimes in day to day routines to remember my (our) purpose ... That is to rejoice in, delight in, and glorify God. But it's such a tremendous feeling when I do delight in Him. And why wouldn't it be? We are created for that very purpose!!!!!
And why do we delight?
"....for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorn his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with jewels." Isaiah. 61:10
